I used to go to the King Alfred Leisure Centre all the time when I was very young that I went swimming lots of times and some exercising at the gym inside. The place looks good but it does gets very windy down here near Brighton. I would give this 4 stars and a solid 8 out of 10. ????????????????????????????

The swimming pool is great as they have a kids section with a structure which acts as a waterfall. The pool is quite big and there is also a slide which is simple but still very popular. They also have membership cards for children under 18 so they can swim free. You have to take shoes off before going into the changing rooms but they could get stolen as many people leave them at the entrance (so take with you and put in locker). Overall very good staff and site :)

Used to go here as a kid in the 90s, going back now with my little one and it hasn't changed at all! Except the small orange slide and the dome thing in the shallow end have gone which is a shame, though there is an overhead water spray thing which is good. Miss the tube slides too! Décor definitely feels dated now. Still a good pool for taking little ones or serious swimming though.

Lots of activities go on here.Badminton, roller disco, swim clubs lots of others...Pool is a good size, always has slow and fast lanes..Pool can be quite cold sometimes..I've always stayed for about an hour and a half..gets too cold after that.showers are sometimes blocked. It has it's own Gym which has replaced the old cafe.Never seems to busy. I only go for the swimming.. Adult swim is £5.10 which I think is quite dear..my daughter has a freedom leisure card so we go holidays/weekends and after 3.30pm after school..

For 50 pounds a month of your hard earned money you can expect not to be able to have a shower after the gym, you can also be sure that there will be numerous machines out of order. The aroma of the gym toilets is also something pretty disgusting. Then when you try and raise these issues with the center. They dont care and dont bother responding. Keep up the solid work guys!

Fantastic. Hasn't changed at all since the 90's. Still the exact same decor. I find this nostalgic you'll find it depressing.

Showing its age now, however the centre is always clean. Wide range of activities at good prices.

The whole place needs an overhaul. The pool is shabby, overcrowded with lots of dirt on the floor of it. The changing rooms are grim - broken lockers, filthy toilets. Staff are pleasant, doing their best with poor facilities. Brighton & Hove needs to provide something so much more modern, hopefully it will get the renovation it requires someday soon.

Great place for a fun swim in Hove. It's a bit long-in-the-tooth but still functional as a swimming location.

Swimming for little ones in the squeaky frog club is great - is drop in but booking is advised. Runs every day but times vary day to day, and double check during holidays. Following that swimming classes are fantastic when they get confident, great teachers (ours is Matt). Soft play is on Tues and Fri, we only go on Fridays, but speaking from this experience quietest time is towards the end of the session. Lots to do, doesn't give you a headache if it is really busy, and my little fella loves it. Long live the King Alfred!

Great pools for the whole family, shallow play area plus a deeper pool for adults, and a separate kid's pool. Also multi-use halls and gym areas as well as refreshments. Nice leisure centre, but the parking costs and lack of signposting to the entrance from the car park could be better.

the staffs are doing as much as they can with what they are given. But I find the condition of the pool and the overall hygiene of this place insulting. It's one of the most used communal pool in Brighton and Hove area, but the quality of the facilities are appalling considering how much better it could be given the money that we have flowing through it. There are always stagnant water over flowing in the changing room areas, water running cold in the shower. This is supposed to be an affordable place where people young and old can come and exercise, meet each other and lead a healthier life style together. But there is no care in it. Really sad to see it going downhill further and further with each passing year. I know they are waiting for a developer to knock it down or something, but it's not right to not look after it at all in the meantime.

The soft play parties are a good idea, but one hour's play and 45 minutes tea is not at all realistic once you have factored in set up, pack up, late arrivals, play, eating, chatting, cake. Most families want a relaxed, leisurely party on the rare occasions when they get family and friends together, not a stressed out rush affair. Whoever devised this timing clearly doesn't do parties or have children! Needs to be at least a 3 hour slot like any other hall hire. On the occasions that we have swam, the water is far too cold for babies and children. Lots of blue mouths. Changing rooms are freezing. Showers are no better. You have lots of reviews saying the same thing, so sort it out...!! it's not difficult to flick the heating switching on. It should be warm and toasty to swim and get out when wet - whether it's Summer or Winter.

Please avoid the swimming pool if you are a slow-lanes swimmer. As a health and fitness writer, it's important to me that people attain wellbeing in safety and with a smile on their face, yet King Alfred's pool is no place for the beginner-swimmer. The pool is often divided into two slow lanes, a medium-pace lane and a fast lane, and it is simply unsafe for novice swimmers, the elderly and the disabled to use their designated two lanes. There are solipsistic swimmers who, frustrated by the crowding in the fast/medium lanes, simply torpedo down the slow ones, causing danger. One woman was even diving and doing handstands in between lapping us slow-lane users every 30 seconds. The lifeguards are unwilling to enforce the lane requirements. This is extremely dangerous and makes a mockery of the council's supposed commitment to health and safety. Avoid King Alfred's if you have an alternative option (many of us don't).

Not allowed to use gym as a traveller. Had to join, but able to use the pool. Why is this? Surly staff. Pool was full of what looks like junk fallen from the ceiling. Use Prince Regent Centre, much better all round

Parking is reasonably cheap in nearby council carpark. Swimming pool - 2 areas - 1 kid friendly - one area for lane swimming. One flume slide which is rather tame. The changing areas are reasonably clean but quite cold so have towels ready for young children on exiting pools.

Good size swimming pool but often too busy. The teaching pool seems to spill into the main pool at times where they shouldn't meaning you’re often one lane down. Sometimes they just bundle them into a lane people are swimming in and expect you to go round. Place is showing its age but still enjoyable.

I am very disappointed with the toddler 3-5 years old swim class, I booked a 6 weeks course and the last week happened to my period week so I won’t be able to go into the pool with my kid. We have no family in Brighton or friends available to replace me so I wrote to the swim school requesting swap to later days so I can still go but they neither offer this option nor refund option. I felt very regret to trust this company and annoyed they didn’t offer this kind of situation when we REALLY can’t go in to pool. Be aware, they are happy to take your money for any situation but when you just need a bit of flexibility, they surely will close their door!
