Unfortunately have had to use the hospitals many facilities over the last few weeks. From day one until on going treatment now being carried out cannot have had better treatment. All the staff and I mean all staff from cleaners to consultants and surgeons have shown the utmost care throughout. Information about diagnosis and after care superb, nurses have phoned us at home and so pleasant and professional, just so helpful, thank you to everyone.

A mixture of excellent staff (Maxillofacial, A@E, UTC) and not so pleasant, or efficient....three were uneccesarily curt, and one healthcare assistant was verging on unprofessional - she had her favourites, and I was not one of them.... I think it takes effort to be rude rather than civil.... information about my treatment was very difficult to obtain...most of the medical staff who saw me on their rounds gave very hurried cursory information - just a couple of minutes extra would have gone a long way...

Visiting the UTC due to a suspected broken bone in my foot, I was seen by a nurse within minutes, had an X-Ray within an hour and a review of the X-ray with the nurse confirmed a fracture in my foot. With an appointment made, I attended the fracture clinic the next morning to be further assessed. I was fitted with an air cast boot and told to return in 6 weeks. Both days treatment was excellent and couldn't have been more efficient, while all social distancing was adhered to, and all staff were friendly and helpful. A slight issue with the air boot (nhs one sizes fits all isnt ideal when the boot bracket rests directly on the broken bone!) was resolved a few days later. I was advised to simply wear soft shoes, which proved excellent advise, as my 5th metatarsal was healing nicely at my final assessment a couple of months later. Upped rating to 5 star due as final result was better than expected.

I called 111 at 1:30am on a Friday/Saturday due to knowing I would not get my own drs app at the earliest Monday if I was lucky or done sit and wait emergency at my drs. I was told after assessment on the phone to make my way to st Mary's. I stated I was under the mental health An did not like crowds etc. I also had to get a neighbour to take me whom has 3 kids all at school age. I am on benefits An could not afford a taxi and can't travel on public transport due to my mental health. We make our way there. Get there 2:10. Only 2 people in the waiting room. Sit there 5 min An get called into see a nurse who took my heart rate An blood pressure. Told to go back to waiting room and would be seen soon. After 1 3/4 hours I asked the elderly lady ( 80/90 yrs old) if she was waiting to be seen. She stated she had been there over 2 hours and that there was only 1 person in front of her when she got there. The other person waiting was a lad mid 20's who said he was with someone being seen. I then ask a dr who was walkin thru for the umpteenth time if he could find out a rough time scale due to my lift needing to get back home to bed for kids in the morning. He said he would let me know but never came back. I waited another 30 min An thankfully the elderly lady got called in. I waited then till 4:30am an then had to let reception know I had to go due to my lift having to get back. What a run down place it is. Know wonder people go to Southampton for what ever they can get done there. I would probably have been quicker goin there an probably would have been seen An back with the time I spent at st Mary's. Sad place. Unlucky for me I now have no antibiotics and an abscess on my leg that's only going to get worse. I've also got to go for X-rays this week for investigation into osteoarthritis . I already have degenerative spondalethesis and needing an operation.

It's not the best hospital in the south but some of the services are excellent. The Maxofacial clinic is extremely good, however the gastro clinic is poor. Day surgery are also not very kind and very short staffed. The parking is impossible to find sometimes and very expensive. The hospital is extremely underfunded and over capacity. It's our only hospital here on the Island. If you are a visitor to the Island and can hold off visiting hospital before you leave then I'd recommend as I don't really recommend ours. Better care at the hospital in Southampton.

Cannot fault, the amazing , caring team in A & E. Many thanks to all who assisted me yesterday giving me a full check over following a suspected cardiac episode. You all were just fabulous at every step of the way from reception to discharge.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, just wasn't enough of them. Sadly funding and budget cuts hace left the hospital very shortstaffed.

My 5 year old daughter broke her arm whilst on holiday and every member of staff that we encountered during our stay was absolutely brilliant. We were dealt with quickly, efficiently and compassionately and each and everyone member of staff that we saw helped turn a horrible situation in to one that was far more bearable and slightly enjoyable! I cannot thank the staff enough - you are all truly remarkable.

My dad (83) was admitted after CT scan showed pneumonia. 4 days later he was discharged ,to be discharged his oxygen level had to be 90% or more without additional oxygen. His was at 87% so they bumped it up to 90 with an oxygen tube and he was discharged. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a month later. He spent his last week in the hospital where they lost his false teeth which gave him trouble eating and failed to give him antibiotics and other medicines many times. The specialist said such advanced cancer should not have been missed by the CT scan, he could not have been saved at this late stage but how many others who could be saved are being failed.

My Mother is currently being treated on the stroke unit at St Marys. There are not enough words to express how good the care she receives is. The staff members are caring, helpful and compassionate and this comment encompasses the whole staff team from Dr's through to admin staff. At all times good natured and kind no matter what is requested of them. Spotlessly clean and tidy- altogether a well run ward.

I could not have had a better experience of the NHS than when I went to St Mary's Hospital on Tuesday with an eye problem. I was quickly seen and assessed in the Beacon Centre and passed on to the Eye Department, where again I was seen very speedily by a nurse and doctor and was almost immediately given laser treatment. Everyone was professional, courteous and friendly and I even got coffee and a biscuit while waiting. The young doctor was obviously highly skilled and efficient and dealt with me in a pleasant way, especially as I understand she had just come out of an operation. Thank you all very much.

Attended The Beacon Walk-In this morning after being advised to by a telephone call to 111. First of all I was very impressed by the 111 telephone adviser. Second, was also then impressed by my reception and treatment at The Beacon. I was seen speedily and efficiently, treated with great humanity and courtesy by clearly knowledgable staff. I wanted to commend them all highly and say thank you!

I am full of praise for the staff, from top to bottom of St Mary’s, and to Freshwater surgery for their caring attitude. Much appreciated and gratifying that institutions do, even under restrictions do their level best to help and treat sick patients, with a positive upright attitude . Thank You so much!

The hospital was fine in all regards except the following. The X rays they took of my son's fractured finger is not made available or shared or perhaps it is lost?

Our little 5 year old daughter broke her elbow on a very busy May bank holiday weekend recently. The hospital were AMAZING. A&E was super busy but the team were very good even when the circumstances they had to work in were clearly not ideal due to lack of space, lack of resources, some fraught patients etc. It was a very long 4+ hours in there but everyone was very kind and were doing their best. My daughter's break was a bad one and so she needed trauma surgery that day. As a mummy I was a bit in shock at this news but tried to be calm on the exterior but inside was a mess however as soon as we walked into the children's ward, I could see my little girl relax. A beautiful 'angel' (Amy, thank you so much) met us and from there on in she gave both myself and my daughter all the support we needed from start to finish...explaining exactly what would happen in detail. We will never forget her reassuring support, kindness and a genuine hug when it was very much needed. All of the nurses in the children's ward were very special (Emma, Kirsty, Harriette....thank you.) A final thank you has to go to the wonderful surgeon Dr Fareed and his whole team in the operating theatre. We were on our 7th hour by the time we met him and his calm, reassuring bedside manner was just what we both needed. We have just had our 3rd visit and her cast has come off and wires removed - the fracture clinic ladies are nothing short of miracle workers....cast off and 2 pins out without our little one even realising what was happening by using a well placed towel and a bit of distraction. All this with a smile of their faces. I really hope all of the people at the hospital we encountered will somehow get to read this to realise that their efforts do not go unnoticed and that they are all wonderful day in, day out. Thank you. x

My 16 month old daughter sustained a cut to her forehead earlier today. We took her to A&E. She was seen promptly and given excellent treatment. We were visiting the Island on a short break. The care was exemplary. NHS may have its faults but it is a wonderful service. We must embrace it.

The way you are treated really depends on which ward you stay in or what doctor, nurse, consultant sees you. i have been admitted in various way and have attend a variety of clinics. The Symptomatic Breast Clinic i was treated with great care and dignity. The ambulance crew for St Marys Newport Isle of Wight have always been wonderful. The staff in A&E have always been wonderful too. Now the other day clinics have been different, the waiting times are terrible for taking bloods, collecting prescriptions and Fracture Clinic. Other day clinic waiting times varies due to demand for that particular service. When admitted to a ward its down to luck whether you are treated in dignity. I have been treated with care and respect but witness staff leave vulnerable patients for over 30 minutes before responding to the patient's bell. You could argue that staff were busy with a emergency on the ward somewhere else but i could see the staff chatting by the nurses work station. It really does depend on the staff, most are caring and respectful but some do not have a clue how to be a caring person. The Beacon centre is a nightmare, waiting times can be very long and lack of space for disabled. Also the hospital runs out patient clinics which means more people waiting in a small area. As for whether any surgical operations are successful is very controversial. Many islanders now choose to attend a mainland hospital but i do not have any proven figures to back this up. On the whole I AM TRULY THANKFUL TO THE STAFF OF ST MARYS HOSPITAL FOR ALL THE HELP THEY HAVE GIVEN ME.

Absolute failure. We were told to report to the hospital before 19.00hrs and arrived at 18.30hrs to have a wound treated for the removal of a very large amount of poison after surgery in Newport, 2 days previously. We then sat in the waiting room until 22.20hrs where my brother-in-law was passed from one so-called expert to another before he was sent home at 02.30hrs, untreated other than a dose of antibiotics; then told to return at 07.30hrs the same morning to have the poison removed? We were told to report directly to the Surgical Assessment Team but couldn't find it because the map in the hospital entrance did not show its location, so we had to report to reception in A&E. They phoned the Team who said they had no record of my brother-in-law and we then sat in the waiting room until 10.30hrs before they actually did anything to him. Everyone I spoke with in this hospital said similar things; the staff and nurses were great, but the Doctors spent most of their time sitting around talking. The so-called 'mobile on call' Doctors did not appear to move from their portacabin for 2 days; no doubt too busy drinking tea, and bragging how much the Mercedes convertible cost one of them?

Got refered to A&E via 111 Health Line. I had a heart attack 3 years ago had surgery, but last night started to get pains in my chest, shortness of breath and my BP was scarily high. The treatment I received from the minute I walked in was superb. Everybody from Doctor "Pippa" , the young lady that did my ECG and took me to X-ray, the nurses who took bloods etc was SUPERB. I was kept informed of everything, every decision and why and time scales. St Mary's and the NHS takes a kicking on a regular basis. My experience here was brilliant. Thankfully, the results were all good.

A regular visitor to the hospital since I was very young, I cannot fault the care I've received over the years. In the last year or so however, things have gone a bit downhill as I can't get hold of the medication/equipment I need for my disability.

I was admitted to the Children's Ward att St. Mary's Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight, along with ALL the other children who lived at the Weston Manor Convent in Totland. All the children had a skin infection, except me! The admission was around 1955. I remember the large Ward. The Nurses were very kind to us. We had our meals around a large table in the centre of the Ward.

we found ourselves at st marys hospital iow after our grandson of 18 months suffered a pulled elbow whilst holidaying on the iow . we arrived at the hospital at 6.45pm on sunday 10th may 2015, we were seen by triage at approx. 7.10pm and seen very quickly after for treatment. The care and speed of treatment was excellent leaving hospital 50 minutes after arriving. We would like to say a big thank you to st marys and the great NHS Oliver was using his arm normally within minutes of manipulation and enjoyed his sausage and chips soon after!
