Attended on Sunday afternoon. All staff at reception, A and E and Swinley ward were fantastic . Very professional and caring. Doing a fantastic job! Only problem was the discharge procedure. I will not go into detail but found it way below par.

Into a&e 29/4/21. temp taken and mask offered. Asked what the issue is...directed to a desk not 5 feet away to be asked the same...directed back to the people on the door to be escorted out of a&e and into a building 100yds away. Asked what I'm here for....40mins later triage....so whats wrong?....sat in waiting room to see a nurse since 9.45...Still waiting. Been told to wait in car and we will call you. A child with serious issues has been sat here since 9.15 and still waiting. Its now 11.35..borderline criminal. Staff are amazing, the paper shuffler who thought this was an acceptable way to run A&E needs sacking

Took my partner into A+E early march with a dislocated elbow. Excellent service. Although I myself was not allowed into the department, a nurse came out after about 20mins to explain the course of treatment. Picked him up 3 hrs later, 2 x-rays done and arm in plaster. A serious injury seen to very quickly. Well done A+E in a very challenging time

Staff were very helpful and the passing members of the public very pleasant. The entrance door to reception area of hospital needs to be sorted with WD40. The noise is rather loud.

I had an appointment on Pemberton ward orthopaedic department today and it was extremely busy. However the staff did not miss a beat extremely professional and helpful. The receptionist and staff were really busy and carried out there work with a smile on there face. Although there were delays and were under pressure so professional hat off a credit to the NHS Thank you.

All the staff at the Baby delivery suite We’re exceptionally professional and made my wife and myself most welcomed at such a nerving time. Our midwife Tina was calm at all times and did not crack under pressure. I’ve only admiration for everyone who helped in the safe delivery of my son and feel immense pride as I have a health care system that I and the country can rely on ???? thank you again Wigan Hospital x

Went to A&E on 30th December 2020 at about 23:30 with a broken collar bone (clavicle) after coming off my bicycle. Was sat in A&E waiting room until 6am the following morning with nothing to help/support my arm, no pain relief etc couldn't drink anything or eat anything as I didn't know if I would need an Op or not. Had 1 x-ray done which a consultant later said was no use. Got seen at around 6am arm was eventually put in a sling and given some pain killers and sent home, left around 8am 31st December 2020. It's now 16/04/21 and my clavicle is still broken. The consultant is incredibly disparaging of operating and basically doesn't want to sighting that there is no difference in movement whether operated on or not, which isn't the issue. Movement is not the problem, having a broken bone that hasn't healed for 16 weeks is, it is as if he is conducting his own clinical trial with no patient consent and at the cost of the patient's health. I cannot work properly, I cannot take myself to work, it is affecting my health as I cannot exercise and I beginning to develop strains and other odd issues in my back, I am unable to carry out necessary tasks at home such as DIY and gardening, I can't sleep on my right hand side and I still have spats of pain. I am due for a CT scan on 25/04/21 all to then be reviewed on the 24th May 4 weeks after the scan and just under 21 weeks since I broke it! That'll be almost half a year since I broke it and if still broken will need intervention, healing time and then physio. There is a complete lack of care and consideration for the patient. Being left with a broken bone like this is completely unacceptable, would they leave someone with a broken arm or leg with no treatment for that length of time? Radicoulous.

I went to the Hospital in Wigan a few days ago as my Girlfriend has a bad turn in the morning, Dizzyness and feeling unwell. After speaking with 111 and going through all her symptoms we were advised to go to the walk in centre, who basically turned round and said my partner looks ok and she is walking fine etc. She was feeling better so we went home cause we didn't feel like waiting behind everyone in the hospital already and felt like we was just wasting the hospitals time. Didn't appreciate how these doctors spoke to me though treating us like we didn't deserve to be there. I guess this is where we are at with the NHS in 2020.

Had to come here as an emergency and got checked out (25wks pregnant) because I was intense pain. Baby was fine and after about 4.5 hrs I was ok. Maternity staff was nice and checked everything out just to be sure. They even suggested there's a chance it's gallstones (and to follow up with a gp if it happens again) instead of sending me home with a shrug like some clinics do. I appreciate that a lot and I'm less scared now.

I had a great experience here in Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, since the Dr and Nurses where extremely professional and caring. I traveled from another city since I had an emergency case and it was totally worthy, got my blood check and x-ray scan results quickly and Doctor advised me as best as possible. Even though I did not had my medical records, they checked everything and gave me proper prescription and did not let me go home before they become sure I am fine. I really appreciate the staff as well, especially the receptionist who was extremely friendly and helpful.

On Wednesday June 10th I attended Wigan infirmary A&E due to having chest pains... obviously I didn’t want to be there with Covid-19 and I did wait 4 days...but I have to say the staff on shift were absolutely amazing!! The Department was immaculate and the staff were constantly busy and yet were always checking in on patients. Unfortunately I can only recall one name Margaret a wonderful lady with such charisma, she never stopped the whole time I was there, even when she scolded herself with boiling hot water she didn’t bat an eyelid...So just wanted to say thank you ???????? from one front line worker to another...You are an amazing team!!!

Admitted with chest pains yesterday 23 June just want to say a massive thank you to all the staff especially the nurses on MAU and the Doctors. They were so thorough and did lots of checks which gave me peace of mind and were kind and patient and explained everything as they went along. Really brilliant service thank you so much.

Could not thank the staff at Royal Albert Infirmary, Wigan, enough. The staff were very helpful, friendly, and understanding. As someone who lives with Autism, being in hospital can be very difficult. However, the staff were all very understanding and patient with me. They helped me stay calm whilst also treating the problem which had brought me to the hospital. I can't thank the staff who treated me enough. All staff treated me with care, patience, and understanding. Making sure I was aware of what was going on and explaining everything to me, so I was clear and aware of the situation. Thank you to you all.

My daughter was post natal after a c section was poorly and was taken to hospital by ambulance to A&E . Due to bed shortage was left to sit alone in the public A&E in her PJs holding her water sample. Disgraceful. Is this really how we treat people.

We had our baby in this hospital in June. Although there was a delay to break my waters, everything after that was really quick. I had a lovely midwife who was great throughout my Labour and heard all my concerns and delivered the best she could. I could not ask for anymore then I got. Even in the wards, I met a midwife who really took care of me. I would just like to let everyone know, that it’s not their fault if there is some sort of delay, as there can be emergencies, so be patient. Once they start your process, you will be their priority and they will always look after you extremely well. I would happily recommend this hospital to all mothers-to-be.

No hospital is meant to be good but I spent a week and a half on rainbow ward and they made my time there amazing! Emily and cat the play workers were amazing and I can't thank them enough for giving me something to do every day. 10/10 100% better than Warrington

My wife was brought to the hospital to induce her so they could safely deliver the baby and reduce the stress on her. They caused more stress than going in with natural labour. A wait is expected and understandable, being told for nearly 22 hours that your next because your dilated and just need your waters broke, only to see multiple people pushed ahead who aren't even having contractions is an absolute disgrace. This hospital use to have standards ????

Arrived at A&E at around 13.00 hrs. Advised to sit whilst my wife got me booked it. Whilst doing so, my wife noticed on a note on the desk that waiting times were about 7 hours. At no time were we advised about this. The waiting room a very small for such a large hospital, and it was very busy. (My GP surgery has much more room!) After around 45 minutes I was called through to Triage where my obs' were checked - BP, Temperature, ?Bloods Stats, ECG etc.I was then transferred to another waiting area within the A&E Dept. After waiting a few more hours, I was eventually taken through to a cubicle for further testing, examination and consultation with medical staff. It was here that I was asked if I'd had an ECG done??? (This information should have been clearly available on my notes, especially as I still had the contacts clearly attached to my body. After being seen by a junior doctor who explained what the situation was, we were then left for the real boredom to set in. Around 16:30 my wife decided to return home - no point both of us being bored. Later - around 18:00 I was transferred to another waiting area - this time, a corridor as they needed the cubicles. Just before 20:00, a nurse approached me and told me to put on a face mask. When I asked why I was told they thought I may have flu' and needed to reduce the risk of transmission. I asked her if she was having a laugh? She didn't reply. (I had only been in hospital over 7 hours, breathing normally, potentially infecting other patients, their relatives, medical and nursing staff, admin staff and managers, domestic staff, police officers and also a couple of prison officers who were on escort - potentially the whole of Wigan district and more! But no, suddenly I had to wear a mask!) At no time was I offered any information about what was happening, unless I asked for it. I had to ask for the drip to be removed as it had stopped. I also asked for the giving set to be removed but got told told "No you may need it later." By this time I had already decided I wasn't staying in hospital - not only due to the lack of communication, but especially as there were far more deserving people around me who were still waiting to be attended to! One poor woman was in constant agony, requesting for help, and being told she'd be seen shortly or, when a cubicle is available. (At this point she hadn't even seen a doctor!) Eventually got my discharge papers and prescription for antibiotics. Home just before midnight. Nightmare.

We have been waiting over fours hours for blood results whilst my partner is sat here in pain. The staff are ignorant and unhelpful. My partner had his bloods taken and his bloody pressure, the lady asked my partner to remove the device himself when surely it’s their job to do so. There seems to be no communication amongst the staff at all, people sat here is agony and there is not a care In the world #frustrating!!!

After being transferred from Bolton for an emergency cesarean, I was greated with such empathy and compassion combined with exceptional professional standards, not only by the midwife, but the receptionists, the anaesthetist, the surgeon, staff in theatre, all the staff in after care on the maternity ward and the staff on the neonatal ward, the whole experience had the potential to be the worst experience of my life, but all these people who truly are dedicated to what they do made it the best, despite the circumstances. To thank them would be an insult, I cannot put into words my gratitude to everyone at Wigan infirmary.

The admin, communication and organisation in this place is absolutely shocking. Dr's and Nurses doing their best but NOTHING works behind the scenes. Recently attended A&E with my Dad and he was in there for nearly 24 hours before getting to a ward where he nearly died the day after due to the time it took to start any treatment. During his A&E experience, his meds list was lost at least 4 times, and he was asked who he was and what he was there for by at least 8 different staff who then just disappeared never to be seen again. No one tells the family what's going on and during visiting times the staff have changed and no one knows either. On top of that the food its unfit for human consumption, its either stone cold, cheap fat filled stodge or on a couple of occasions his meals turned up raw. Once started, his treatment did work and he recovered, but then the admin chaos started again as he approached discharge. Day after day he was told he was going home 'tomorrow' only for it to not happen due to some other 'something or other' that hadn't been done. Don't they realise that the whole family get geared up with clothes, days off work, transport etc ready for discharge??? Then it doesn't happen. Its criminal. Meanwhile the poor patient is left in limbo for days on end and in my Dad's case, almost suicidal at the end of it all. This place is torture, not care.

Always find the staff here very friendly and helpful. The hospital is always clean and tidy. The car park is the biggest let down. Can’t park unless it’s 3am or really quiet. The canteen needs drastically updating with the selection of foods and the coffee shop needs overhauling.

My little lad was on rainbow ward for the day to have an operation on his toe. Even though it was such a small operation, the nurses and rest of the staff were amazing, made sure he was well looked after, I know not many wards in the hospital allow other children / visitors, but they were so welcoming to my other 2 kids (i had no other alternative than to take them with me) I wouldn't hesitate to take any of my children back, should I need to... The staff do not get the recognition they deserve. I can't thank them enough for looking after my little boy

I had the misfortune to attend the accident and emergency department of this historical hospital following a fall to my partner ...Allthough the ward and admissions were snowed under with patients ; the overworked staff coped phenomenally: every cubicle was full and patients were on trolleys in the A&E department .......even so the nurses and doctors coped very well .. My partner was seen in Triage within 30 mins ..then by a doctor and sent for X Ray's and scan ..the treatment lasted for 7 hours and cannot praise the staff enough xxxxx

The surgery admissions lounge at christopher home At the royal Albert , is incredible. The staff our friendly, informative and full of care and compassion, which is extremely important for patients facing surgery. I have to say that the surgeon team was also friendly and kept me informed throughout my local anaesthetic op. At no time did I feel the anxiety that you would expect with an operation and day stay. I travelled from Southport and have to say that if I am ever given a choice of hospital again, then I would definitely choose the royal Albert again as for me, a friendly and caring attitude is just as important as the surgery itself , in order for a quick recuperation and an anxiety free hospital stay.

Ive had nothing but bad experiences with wigan hospital! I could write an essay but honestly it would be never ending. There are a few good staff in there and its a shame that they are wasting their potential. I dont know if its the staff, the numbers or the management thats messing things up here but i would genuinely rather die than be taken to wigan again. Only this week they almost killed my mum due to ADMITTED neglect, and its still ongoing. If you can get to another hospital i would 100% advise it.

I have been admitted many times over the last 12 months and those that complain need to take a good long hard look at their attitude , they are docs and nurses not servant's , They work so hard and their care is second to none .They are dealing with many patient's much worse than ourselves ,Yes i have had to wait but so it happens all over the country through cut backs , I much appreciate all they have done and are doing for me , just one complaint the Wigan Chef wont give the recipes for the soup , the food id lovely . :) Thank you Wigan and Linekar

Shortage of staff is leading to a VERY poor service. Staff are wonderful and do their best under very difficult circumstances I can only conclude that the management is the issue. I have been trying to find out where my father is for almost an hour after being admitted via an ambulance Thursday night its now Friday morning and we haven't a clue where he is or how he is

This hospital is a joke , I can’t believe I pay through my taxes to keep this hell hole open! Don’t send your loved ones here, my fiancé was seriously ill with a life threatening condition, that they was very slow at finding a diagnosis, and even when they finally discovered What it was , they was very slow to treat it despite it being life threatening, it just got worse with no answers and they messed him about so much that he discharged himself and got himself in whiston who are doing a great job despite the negligence from Wigan! Staff are rude and have attitude problems even when spoken to nicely and respectfully... they have a “don’t care not my problem attitude” It’s just not good enough, they should be ashamed of themselves. I politely asked for directions and was replied with a “whahh??” Oh it’s down there then turn left”.. then when I asked again because I was unsure of what she meant I got a “ like I said ( sarcastically) it’s down that way “ in the end I just thought forget it and found where I needed to be eventually... attitude problems!!
