The Anchor is a family owned and run pub. The homemade sausage roll and chips are fantastic.

I've enjoyed the anchor in the past but my last trip in September was abysmal. Firstly the grumpy old woman receiving guests at the entrance to the garden was horrendously rude to start with. Real attitude problem. I brought my excitable puppy along, and that grumpy old bag stared at me throughout, shaking her head in disgust. So I felt uncomfortable the entire time, bad enough trying to manage the puppy, she just made it worse. The food was absolutely horrible. I ordered crayfish salad which consisted of a few scraps of crayfish on a huge bed of iceberg lettuce and chunks of tasteless tomatoes. These are cheap fast food ingredients, who serves iceberg lettuce?!! Awful, will never go back there.

Good house wine, well stocked fireplace in the winter months, hidden just off the beaten track but worth the diversion for a drink.

Nice place tucked away in the middle of Henley - ideal for a lunch. Friendly staff and good service. Lots of adherence to distancing and they welcome small dogs.

Decent Brakspears pub by the river. Beer and wine were good, as was the food. Problem getting in to the pub. There are three doors. One has a handle. Turn the handle and push the door. Or ring the bell by the handle like many customers did. It's the left most door facing the pub.

We visited on a sunny day after lunch and sat in the garden for lunch, it was pretty empty. The food was alright, decent for a pub, good portion of meat but could do with a few more vegetables. The waiters didn't really come over for table service, we were left waiting to order food and to pay. The garden itself was pretty cramped full of chairs and tables so it didn't feel like the nicest place to sit outside being a bit claustrophobic. When other people chose to smoke, being in a smaller space meant it somewhat ruined the outdoors.

Stopped over for lunch on a cool afternoon just before Christmas. Has a really rustic and cozy feel to it. We had 3 young kids with us. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The food was equally brilliant. This pub is right next to the river front and short stroll from the railway station. Would definitely recommend this place.

The sign outside said Secret Walled Garden. This was in fact the carpark covered in cheap fake grass, it sloped and there were horrible plastic fold up chairs and tables that were dirty! We had already paid for our wine so drank it as quickly as possible and got the hell out of there. Will never visit again!!

Very , very disappointed. COVID temporarily ( hopefully) killed any atmosphere this pub had . Plastic tables and chairs in he car park. Under a make shift tarpaulin. No thanks , oh forgot plastic glasses just to finish it off . Covid policy ill conceived .

Nice pub .... slightly off the beaten track, therefore a little quieter.

£6.20 for a moreti! Thought that was quite overpriced. Its a standard beer, come on. Wasn't going to leave a review but couldn't help myself seeing how the owner leaves uber sarcastic rebuttals to any criticism :)

Shocking! Very rude hostess, booking made for 2.30 arrived at 2.29 to be told we were 30 minutes late, our table had been given up and the kitchen closed at 2.30 (how was the table given up then...?) I was told I had been called yet have no missed calls. I can’t believe how poor the attitude was. Shall never try to book here again and neither will any of our friends! ????

The team helpfully arranged a table for 7 at very short notice. It was busy, with the egg chasing on, but the food was great and served without delay. They were quick to get the kids scribbling and colouring to keep them quiet which I personally like. Service was very friendly and polite (we are in Henley after-all) . The Anchor has a lovely outdoor area overlooking the river. It will seat around 50 people and on a summers day I reckon it is packed. I will be going back again for sure.

Excellent service, really superb. Spacious and attractive beer garden. More than adequate selection of beer and wine. Broad menu but food not 5star taste. The salad that I had was uninspired.

Lovely little pub a bit away from the main road so quieter. Dog friendly which will be a plus for some, not so much for others.

Sat down outside and waited 20 minutes to be served or at least acknowledged, then when we got up and asked a waitress for the menu she looked at us then just walked away?? We then found a menu and again waited for somebody to come to us which didn’t happen. We went up to the same lady and asked if we could make our order and she said that she wouldn’t take our order for at least another 20 minutes until a big party had finished? We wouldn’t have come in if we’d been told this when we first walked through the door but no we wasted an hour of our lives sitting in a pub with the most impolite disrespectful staff ever. Will NOT be coming to this pub again, it sucked. We understand that pubs can get very busy during the summer but we have been to hundreds in the same situation where the staff have been kind and actually made an effort to make us feel welcome.

Thankyou so much to the lady working there today who helped us when my mother fell outside and hit her head. The lady came out and provided a seat and welcomed my mother inside. Very kind of her. It was a warm and friendly pub.

Just missed the lunch period but what we saw looked fine. Got some real ale which was a bit disappointing. Not sure if it was left in the pipes too long.

Went on a sunday for a roast with family. The veg and potatoes were very hard. I spoke with the team that work there who organised for the veg replaced. The veg took ten minutes (roughly) in the mean time my meat went cold as they didnt offer to keep it warm. This was my first ever visit and first impressions were not great. The team members were sincere but offered excuses that in my opinion were invalid. Sadly will never the return as it looked like a lovely establishment.

Only popped in for a drink. Hmm... So no soft drinks of any kind on tap, the only soft drinks available were the very small glass bottles sat on a nice warm, wooden shelf. Pint of moretti beer, £6! SIX POUND!

Terrible service. Staff were too stressed and unprepared to handle a busy bank holiday Monday for lunch. We arrived at about 1.30 and asked for menus, half an hour later we overheard a waitress shout "No more food orders!" across the whole pub and didn't even have the courtesy to come and tell us. The atmosphere overall was poor.
