A very well kept cemetery of the fallen German soldiers during the Second World War. Very informative and rich in history. You get the feeling of lost life here. The 5 black monuments, with one bigger in the middle are graves of the soldiers. Usually, 3-4 were buried under each grave. Very peaceful. It's a recommended visit!

A ln amazing peaceful place, many young people lie here peaceful under the trees and stars. Worth the visit, bit off the beaten track but highly recommended. Toilets are working, the information centre is getting a rebuild by the looks of it.

Impressive cemetery for the German fallen soldiers of WW2. Such a vast difference from the Maison Blanch World War One Cemetery. The Canadian maple leaf memorial garden is a somber place to reflect. Information Center gives some historical information and also includes a free public washroom.

A must see for people who want to know the complete picture of about the second world war. This cemetery is made for the fallen soldiers who fought on the German. This is a good place to show you that there are no winners in war and that a war only knows death. I think both soldiers earn their respect. This is also an special place because this is the resting place of the tank ace Michael Wittmann.

A must see! Top 2 stops on your Normandy tour have to be the American cemetery and the German cemetery. War is hell, but their fight is over and wargraves are the great communicator of peace.

A sombering stop on the way from Bayeux to Utah Beach, this German cemetery gives illustration to the lose from the side opposite the Allies. It is nice to see that a private organization maintains these sites since the German government doesn't.

I visited this not knowing how I would feel and to be honest it is a very sad place in contrast to the Allied cemeteries. When I visited the grass was muddy underfoot and it just feels like this is not as well cared about as the others. I don't mean that as a criticism just an observation. Men were busy working around the cemetery at the time. The most striking thing for me is the amount of multiple graves with no names and the young ages of some of the soldiers.

Early afternoon visit. There were a couple of tour buses and quite a few individuals in the area. Visitor center was 4 out of 5 but overall excellent (the had the wrong location for the headstone I was looking for). The grounds were immaculate as were the markers, rows, and surrounding foliage. Very well done and very well kept up.

Well maintained (by German soldiers never the less) German war cemetary. Well worth a visit. Often times you find wreaths with messages in English and French, mourning the lifes lost. A feeling of instant sadness comes up once you enter. Information center is currently (as of May 14th 2019)closed for renovations. Name lists cannot be looked at.

Very moving place , most of the German soldiers are 18 years, to young???????? . It is well worth a visit to pay respects to those who gave all on the other side.

A lot of people forget about this place, it's not as fancy as Omaha Cemetery and is facing a motorway, but once you enter its walls, you'd never know. Rows upon rows of fallen German men and boys, nearly all are 2 men per grave, some are 4, and a lot of them are unknown (ein deutscher soldat). It's a sad place, but well worth a visit to remember both sides took great losses.

Not to diminish the Allied stories, but it does provide a bit of balance to the whole Normandy experience. So many very young men buried here, just like all the other military cemeteries in the region.

Must see. No question. A totally different approach from Coleville and Bayeux but not least touching.

My son and I truly enjoyed our visit. It’s not as big as the American Cemetery but you still get the feeling of life lost on the German side. There were a few very nice, English speaking volunteers to provide information. The large mound-monument is actually a burial site for hundreds of soldiers.

As an Englishman visiting Normandy I thought it may be out of place for me to visit a German cemetery, not so. Well worth a visit. Good information centre full of information about the cemetery and some of those who lie there. Very peaceful and somewhere to reflect on the waste of life that war is. Thank you.

A very sad and somber place that reminds us of the realities of war on both sides. This cemetery is in stark contrast to the allied cemeteries nearby, but is respectful of the loss of both sides. There is a serenity and peacefulness here as you see so many lives lost and so many so young. It is really worth the visit to anyone

Indeed, the visit to the cemetery reminds one of the fact that most of the people who died had little or no choice. They were human beings, fathers, sons, with lives ahead of them. Truly, the somberness of the place makes one think deep and hard.

I rated this cemetery as five stars, not because I loved it - it is hard to love a cemetery - but because it was amazingly moving. One forgets that German boys fought and died in WW II, just like boys from the Allies did. This cemetery brings that fact home. Some of the markers are for boys as young as 18. The cemetery is much more somber than the American cemetery over Omaha Beach. The stones are all dark and lend a feeling of sadness to the whole experience. Seeing this cemetery is something I never will forget.

A very sombering experience. A well laid out and peaceful place. A stark reminder of the futility of war, and those it sweeps up in its wake. It also harbours the grave of a monster. The atrocities of Oradour sur Glane have their own memorial, this site contains the man responsible for what happened on that awful day. It left me very conflicted, the sadness and tears I shed, and the anger that this animal was amongst them. As I said, the futility of war.

A very very sad place. Unbelievable how many lives had to be waisted for the cause. So many young German soldiers and unbelievable many non named graves here. It is a big contrast compared to the allied cemeteries. A very dark and sober place that takes your breath away. Even on the most beautiful days. There is sufficient parking available and it has a somewhat cheap feeling visitor center that shows all the German cemeteries in France. The also mention other conflicts in the world. Nothing is being glorified, just a place to remember the once that have fallen.

Very shocking place. Completely worth the visit. They were the invaders, and the loosers but we can't forget that most of them were only fooled puppets. To visit these King of places should be compulsory once in Life in order not to forget what happens when we are at war

One of the best cemeteries I have ever been to. Incredibly sad seeing the age of some of the soldiers involved in the war. Recommend this as a must when searching for the history of the war in France.

A somber experience, but definitely a place worth visiting. A huge contrast to the American and Canadian cemeteries (both of which are also must-visit places if you are interested in D-Day/WW2), both in number of buried and in the emotional feel of the place. The German cemetery is beautiful, but in a dark, sad way that leaves an empty feeling. The signs near the entrance are almost apologetic in nature, pointing out that not every soldier believed in the cause they were fighting for. The visitor center was unmanned, and the relatively cheap, poor displays set the tone for the place. Row after row of low, dark headstones surround a tall burial mound for unknown soldiers topped with a large sculpture of black stone. The sheer number of graves combined with the low headstones and crosses and rows of trees paid for by families and organizations from Germany, France, and other nations create a profound effect that won't be forgotten.

As an American I had mixed emotions. It's a sad place. The cemetery does not make any attempt to glorify the sacrifice. It merely recognizes the other sides loss. My ancestors are German so of course there was a certain degree of amazement when I put my last name in the computer. You'd think the entire linage was wiped out in France. The entire coast is amazing. Go if you can.

Goodly maked, with very honor... may be many of people do not like my note, but that soldiers deserve of all honors... cause all mine grandfathers had fought them... on my opinion german soldiers is the best ones of the world! it seems to me here buried the Black Baron - the most curageous field warrior always fought with much numbered enemies... nevertheless, i hate any war!!!

This cemetery is very bare. The looks are very Germanic which is no surprise since it is a German militarily cemetery. Walking around gives a very eerie feeling.

Another sombre and thought-provoking memorial to the wasted lives of so many soldiers. Well worth visiting this often overlooked memorial to Germany's fallen.

During our trip to Normandy we saw both cemeteries, the american and the german. This one is more authentic, not glorifying and very scary. Most of the boys buried here were born between 1920-1926. The youngest I found had just turned 17. As a german I can assure you: They weren't monsters. They were just boys with an evil role model. If you plan to visit Normandy you should see this.

First i would like to thank the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. for taking care of this place. Perhaps consider donating for them. It´s sad when you see the age of most of the soldiers. How much wasted years of lifetime. Also i would like to recommend foreign visitors to pass by as well. This site is a very big contrast to lots of the other cemeteries in the area. Very simple, dark and sad.

A must do if you're in Normandy. Though they were the enemy, they were still young men who died doing what their country requested from them.
