HIDDEN COSTS! With mostly genuine looking, good reviews on google I’m sure that my review is an anomaly (though some of the other review sites suggests a patchy experience). I recently purchased some artwork through one of Rosebery’s Artsy auctions. Did plenty of research, looked at comparable listing and thought that I was happy with the price, when I received the invoice it had Artist Resale Royalty included. When I had been looking for this piece and decided to buy it from the Rosebery’s auction as in the listing didn’t include the Artist Resale Rights (so thought perhaps either Artsy or Rosebery’s were soaking this up in their healthy commission). I’d seen many auctions on Artsy where the resale rights had been explicitly listed next to the bidding section, along side the buyers premium information - so all fair enough, these auctions all explicitly listed the additional costs. When I challenged the invoice I was sent a screenshot of where the Artist Resale Rights had been listed....it was in a separate section, next to the frame size and whether it was framed or not....and it was put in brackets as an abbreviation, an abbreviation that is never used in any of the Artsy T&C’s! To be honest, they may have well have just stuck it half way through the artists bio or after their postcode for all the prominence they gave it. Artsy got back to me and contacted Rosebery’s about it, I contacted Rosebery’s about, never heard anything back. I was aware that Artsy said I have 7 days to pay, but Rosebery’s own site says that I only have 5, and as they seemed happy to small print me out of money, and had my credit card details, I didn’t want to incur hidden fines and charges, so I just paid it. Still haven’t heard anything back from either Artsy or Rosebery’s. I can appreciate that perhaps Rosebery’s made a mistake when inputting the data, and if they were producing their own catalogue it might have been clearer, perhaps it was just a formatting issue, but what isn’t ok is when you have thousands of pounds committed and no one even gets back to you.

Excellent, cordial and efficient service. The experts, particularly Marcus Grey, were most helpful. I recommend them with great pleasure.

My experience with Roseberys both as a purchaser and seller of artworks is extremely positive. I have recently submitted a number of artworks across two auctions - dealing directly with Shane Xu - and it was an absolute pleasure. Staff across all departments at Roseberys are responsive and professional. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

I've now purchased several lots at auction from Roseberys and every experience has been positive. A great small auction house. Interesting items are always coming up for auction. Its not Sothebys or Christie's and that's a good thing!their online bidding experience is excellent, as well as the live stream auction experience.

Popped in to pick up some prints I purchased. Like a number of others, I cannot say it was a warm welcome. Very cold receptionist who seemed like she would rather be anywhere than there - ironically the receptionist not serving me said Good Morning and smiled, so I guess I chose the wrong one. No assistance bubble wrapping, which is ridiculous. Just thrown bubble wrap and scisssors - not fun with a large framed work when you are just recovering from back treatment. I won't be back and I certainly will not be recommending to friends and clients in the industry. One star for the nice lady on reception who didn't serve me but clearly wants to be there. Hey ho.

Five star, great company to deal with. Have sold stuff in the past and was very easy to arrange a valuation. Brought items in their March Fine art sale using Roseberys Live and was delighted with getting my items. Watched the auction live and also bid live. Would recommend to anyone.

I attended the Modern and Contemporary Prints auction in October and managed to successfully bid for a fabulous print. The staff were very courteous and helpful all day and made sure my visit to the saleroom was thoroughly enjoyable. When I collected my print, the staff also went out of their way to bubble-wrap and protect the item for my train journey home. I would also highly recommend the cafe - an excellent bacon sandwich and a great cup of tea went down a treat.

Be very cautious!!! We won a bid on 6 chairs by Marcel Breuer. After being picked up and delivered we were more than shocked. Not only were the chairs clearly fake chairs and cheap rebuilds. But even more they were completely damaged and unusable. The joints are broken the seats are damaged. I have no problem with getting vintage chairs with patina and used look. But if something is broken it should either be marked and advertised as broken or should be put in the trash. To have a “serious” and “professional” auction house auctioning something without naming fake manufacturer and construction damages is just a rip off!!! Be aware! All the best, Sascha

As a first time visitor to Roseberys (and novice auction goer) I found the experience enjoyable and pretty seamless. The reception staff were friendly and guided me through the process and everyone was very helpful when I wanted to look at specific objects. I really liked the atmosphere, it was definitely not what I was expecting (I thought it would be stuffy) and wasn't stressful at all. I would definitely visit again.

Perhaps one of the worst auction houses in Europe - extortionate charges, including not only a commission but an additional spurious levy - "pieces have to be moved around as often as six times and prices reflect this", service levels best described as non-existent or autistic - appraisals are brusque and thin - appalling communication skills, pretentious and delusional ideas of status for business in area of London where often barely safe to park car. Those who have reviewed more thoroughly here all appear to share this experience, and I suggest one line puff pieces to bolster the image are best disregarded.

GOOD LUCK in getting an appraiser who is friendly, and also one who gives a real appraisal! We took in items which had even been valued in the 1000's ( by a far more famous LONDON Auction House) and to the appraiser that day - a mere £150!!! People waiting behind us also had this experience- cheap offers for items they will get more for elsewhere. Maybe it was the appraiser we had... I am sure the Auction House is a good one.

I have used roseburys on a number of occasions to appraise, value and sell. I cannot speak highly enough of the knowledge and service I have received. Excellent value and a much more personable service offered than some notable houses in London. Always a pleasure.

This appears to be an excellent company, run in an impressive mannerin an age where the notion of'service' is almost forgotten by larger, puffed up Companies. I shall visit today to seek further info. The fact that they bother to answer their reviews is a very good sign. These people actually care about their customers. How refreshing!

Dear Vicky Wonfur, if you are genuinely interested in engaging with clients would you tell me precisely what I get for paying 27.8 per cent plus VAT? It's rather like buying from Waitrose and then charging an additional 28 per cent for the pleasure of having shopped in their store. Numbers are rising all the time. The buyer's premium has became unstoppable. It grew from fairly humble percentages in the 1970s to its present enormous figure, partly because of the increasing numbers of private buyers who were happy to pay the extra. Will you ever bring this number down?

I have bought and sold with Rosebery's several times over the last year and I can't rate them highly enough. The staff are always very friendly, knowledgable and willing to help where they can. Overall a very professional auction house who can certainly hold their own amongst the other London auction houses. I am also very impressed with the new look reception!

Please do not buy from this company, the are con artists and regularly sell fake paintings and miss represent their goods. Once they have your money they will not refund it and you will end up in court trying to get a refund. Buyer Beware, they try and use pages of small print to assist the con!

The sheer amount of dealers who refuse to buy anything from this auction house is incredible. The staff are rude and aggressive on the phone and are intent on ripping people off by charging extortionate storage charges after a few days post purchase ...whilst recommending packers who are equally extortionate! They really should get to grips with how many customers they have lost and refuse to buy from them because of their inflated ego's, terrible customer service and policies. One day Roseburys you will get a new MD who will start to listen to feedback and then amend this greedy and aggressive business model you retain with complete disregard for Internet buyers not in the room.

An absolutely bad experience. We won an item at the auction, waiting for the invoice but no news. After a week we called them asking what's happened, they answered telling that our item was sold by another person, paid and collected by him in the same day of the auction ! Absolutely incorrect and not professional, unfortunately the first time that we have a problem with an English auction. Very very disappointed.

I have used Roseberys a number of times and my experience has been the complete opposite of some of these reviews. I have found staff there to be incredibly knowledgable and helpful with their commission and charges completely transparent compared with other auction houses I have had the misfortune of dealing with. The recent refurbishment work has only added to the experience and has been extremely well recieved by all other customers I have spoken with. I would highly recommend Roseberys.

This is the worst auction house I've ever been to in London. Zero star but Google says you need to click on at least one, in order to post review. "Caveat emptor" at a whole new stratosphere: a snake pit, basically. Some staff members are nice, but boy, does the management suck or what? Been buying on and off for years, had a number of run-ins but the most recent and last purchase was truly icing on the cake! I mis-transcribed a lot number in the last sale and asked if Roseberys could help me auction it off next time, even though I was happy to pay the commission for the mistake I made. Answer:"No". Why? Because it was a horrible reproduction table which I had obviously overpaid when I left an absentee bid. It's fine when Roseberys’ staff misinterprets clients' instructions, but there is no let-up for a genuine mistake. Just to put it into context, the last run-in I had was with Roseberys was about 3 years ago, with the snivelling “Director”, now masquerading as an Asian expert. This “Director” refused to honour a written commitment by his former colleague, a director who had left the firm. The earlier director had agreed to forgo commission on the most expensive lot at the next auction as a gesture of goodwill. On that occasion, Roseberys staff had written down my lot numbers incorrectly, and as a result I lost out on a lot which I really liked. So I thought the director’s offer to take the commission off the next auction was a nice PR job. At the next auction, I was rung by the snivelling “Director” saying as the earlier director had left the firm, Roseberys’ would not be able to honour his commitment and I was asked to pay commission on a very expensive lot. It was only after I had threatened legal action that he backed off and agreed to honour the written commitment. That happened 3 years ago, and since then I have only been back at Roseberys’ intermittently, as I became weary of their sharp approach. Have you noticed that for all the negative complaints, the standard response is “We really value feedback..?” I wonder how these customer complaints were ultimately resolved. I’ve closed my account.

Ordinary suburban auction house. My gripe with them is that their buyers' premium rate is as high as Sotheby's or Christie's while they cannot hope to provide a comparable level of service
