I am in my 70's and wanted to do some changing in my financial portfolio. I was lucky enough to get James Longakar both times I went in. He was VERY efficient and when there was a question about my Trust he checked with someone who knew the answer. I have been very impressed with the clerks, they have been very kind. My husband did mention to me that it would be helpful to have a numbering system for the financial officers.

I decided to bank with MACU since it was a local credit union. I opened a checking acct and a credit card with them about 3 years ago. When I purchased a new car, they wouldn't even come close to the loan rates offered by other lenders. They wouldn't provide me with a personal loan, even though my payment history is great. Again, I was able to get a decent rate at a different lender... When I went in for my loan, I was told I'd have to wait 20 minutes, it ended up being around an hour wait time, with no acknowledgement. Many other banks offer currency exchange for free to their customers, MACU wants you to use your card and charges a fee. I haven't seen a single benefit from banking with them... Once I pay off my credit card, I'm changing away from this horrible place.

great experience so far however if I can make a couple suggestions. Since your usually busy and having people wait for loan officers can you have some sort of ticket system? That way when there is going to be a 20 min wait we know who is next up and our position in the wait line. Also it would be very nice if online or in the app I could rearrange my accounts to determine which ones I see in what order. I do like the ability to rename all my accounts! That is certainly a make it or break it for me! Everyone was really nice and they even stayed late on a Saturday for me when I was opening all my new accounts. Also printing cards there while I wait is super nice!

Wow you guys are shady!!!!! You put a levy on my daughters disability checks!!!! That’s not even legal ... and when we call we get the run around!!!!! They won’t even let us talk to the legal department. They lied about the supervisor being then on the call as well. Tried to talk with the supervisor and they just left us on hold!!! Crooks with terrible service!!! I can’t wait to close that account when we get our money finally back from you people!!!!

First visit to MACU in years, mostly because all the locations are fairly inconvenient for me. I went in to obtain some cash, and inquired about CD rates. Turns out, the rate is significantly better than what my other financial institution (a bank) offers. At the counter, I was able to convert a large portion of my savings account into a 6-month CD. Simple and quick!

I used to belong to a couple different credit unions, I became a member of Mountain America Credit Union when I attained a car loan with them. I am super happy. I would have never thought a credit union would bend over backwards for me, but they have been a GREAT credit union. Way better than my expectations. Every person... teller, or management that I have come into contact with have been completely awesome!!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME FIND A WONDERFUL CREDIT UNION!!!

Don't bother coming in on a Saturday. Always a line regardless of the day but on Saturday it goes out the door. More tellers staffed in the middle of the week instead of weekend? Should have more on Saturdays since its the only time anyone can even make it to the bank. At least plan on a 45 min wait.

My loan officer did a fabulous job. He was professional, informed and walked me through the process seamlessly and quickly. I did not expect such personal service especially since I did not have an account with Mountain America. But I do now! I would like to personally thank Nico Sisneros for his superb handling of my Auto Loan. Nicely done, indeed.

I visited this branch with a particular request that required the teller to put in a moderate amount of footwork to find me some answers about information on my account, and to help me with a form I very much needed. She did everything she could do for me, and then some! She made a special printout of the details I needed, and she just helped me feel important and comfortable during my visit there. It was a very light and pleasant experience.

I came in here with my husband and needed to get a debit card printed off, we were informed due to some circumstances we were unable to... I needed to access some funds that day that had been transferred but had no way of doing that with no debit card. Bronson was amazing! He was so helpful in finding an alternative so we were able to get the money withdrawn that day. He was very efficient and caring in his work. Thanks Bronson!

By FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD! Me and my wife went in to open an account with Darren with his manger PARKER Because my wife had a learners permit and they said it wasn’t a valid driver license and then threw it back at her and then they called there “back office” and then I told him about Utah’s law that you can’t have an ID & a drivers license but they didn’t care about what we had to say it was there rules I used to come to this branch all the time to get what I need done and I will never return to this racist place!!

I want to start out by saying I am a loyal Mountain America customer and have been a member for the last 20+ years, so this review is towards this location, not the credit union: I went to this location thinking they would have the most knowledgeable loan officers available, being one of the larger branches in the area. When I arrived I was greeted by Bri, who offered to help. After approximately 5 minutes with her she seemed agitated and annoyed that I wasn't very adept on the options she was presenting. She told me abruptly that I would have to speak to the Mortgage Loan officer, because she didn't have the information to help me. I said no problem and waited my turn for the officer. When the Mortgage Loan Officer, Lauren Brandol, was finally available she walked out shook my hand and lead me into her office. I presented the same questions to her as I did to Bri, to which she replied with an almost a worse reaction. I wanted a few different loan options and know the best way to proceed, but once again I was patronized with my lack of knowledge in this area. She told me her opinion on what loan I should be looking for, to which I agreed and asked if she could help me out. She told me that any of the other loan officers could help me and lead me back to Bri, the woman who just told me she couldn't help me. I told Lauren, "I just presented the same information to Bri as I did to you, and she sent in to speak to you, are you sure she can help me with this?" Lauren looked absolutely appalled that I would ask that, and replied with, "I'm sorry, are you sure you have the time to wait?" I left immediately. I have always had great experiences at the majority of Mountain America locations, but this was the first time I was completely disrespected and patronized. I would strongly urge you to avoid this location like the plague. I went to another branch and was taken care of almost immediately.

If you open a checking or savings account this credit union will "verify your identity" by "any means necessary" meaning they will do a hard credit check. If you want to buy a house or car in the next 2 years avoid this credit union because they do a hard credit check even if you don't want financing! They get a star for beautiful branches and having reasonable hours, other than that they're dishonest and not upfront about their policies. I was reassured by my banker that she wasn't pulling a credit report but she did.

We have our mortgage through Mountain America and the customer service is so bad my husband and I have discussed refinancing with another credit union. No one at a branch can answer any of our mortgage questions. Therefore were forced to call the 1-800 number and talk to the terrible customer service. My most recent call was with a representative name Amanda. She had a terrible attitude, did not talk nicely and treated every question I asked like it was stupid. All I wanted to know was if funds had/would be applied. Probably one of the simplest calls she got that day. I will be looking to leave MACU as soon as possible.

The staff are courteous and responsive every time I've been in. One request is to bring back your tax preparer. The MACU is doing a wonderful job. If one has to wait in line a few moments, or the drive thru, I am thankful, means they have much business to do. Good news. Dissatisfied customer. Really disappointed on the loan officer that assisted me at this branch. He was very unhelpful and just told me they couldn’t help with refinance my car and didn’t provide and options for me. I had to go to another branch and they were able to help me 10X better than this branch.

My experience with the credit union has always been great. I have been a customer of Mountain America for almost 30 years. Recently Bri at the Metro Branch refinanced my car loan which will save me a lot of money over time. She was very professional and knowlegible. She is one of the reasons I intend to stay with the credit union for years to come.

I've banked with MACU for 28 years. We've had a couple Home Equity loans, multiple car loans, and a small business loan. Staff has always been very friendly. The web and mobile apps are fantastic (intuitive and easy to use). ATM and branches all over the place and convenient (even in Kamas, UT). Visa rewards program could be better.

(Original 2016 June) I have my 1st car loan with MACU, and I'm trying to get a 2nd one. James at the auto loan department was very knowledgeable and helpful. He looked up many options, and calculated different potential payments. He also gave me some good suggestions with managing personal credit as well as balancing the number of loans (car loans & mortgage). Keep up the good work! (Update 2020 Feb) Went in for auto loan today and ended up saving a lot of money on my mortgage as well! Caden, the auto loan agent, and the branch manager Elton were beyond helpful and also very friendly. They were very happy to share many tremendously useful loan structure advice for my investments. Cannot say enough how awesome they are.

Be careful!!!! My account was defrauded AFTER I reported my information missing. A month later they came and took $9000 out of my wife's account with no warning or justification. They stole almost every dollar my family has after having our lives torn apart by thieves. Go somewhere else!!!

My first ever meeting with MACU was fantastic from start to finish. I went to the downtown SLC Branch and met with Bri to open an account and begin talking about refinancing my car. Not only did we refinance my car to a 50% interest decrease, I also paid off my pay day loan and refinanced that from 76% all the way down to 12%! I highly recommend this Banking Service and am confident I'm on the right track to better financial life story. Thank you MACU!

Teller 1804 was incredibly rude on 03/02/2018. He was condescending to the Spanish-speaking individual ahead of me, speaking overly loudly (loud enough that the line of people waiting for tellers could hear the transaction) and repeating "MUCHO DINERO, that's all we care about MUCHO DINERO." She seemed embarrassed and upset. When Teller 1804 assisted me, he was also rude, repeating what I said in a mocking, sarcastic tone. Ultimately, this teller did not process the deposit of my cashier's check correctly. Very unimpressed with this branch's tellers' professionalism and service. --UPDATE-- 03/16/2018 After another trip to this branch, and several phone calls, my above complaints have been handled. This was not easy, as the general number listed here on Google-- and the only number given through communication with Assistant Manager and Branch Manager, was only ever answered once-- today. I called this line over twenty times, and at different times of day in the weeks since the initial, above incident. Hint: call the other downtown branch and ask to be transferred directly to a person in the 735 State St branch. Branch Manager Parker did contact me to resolve my above complaints and did return each of my messages that I left for him. Today, we connected finally and he was very communicative. He mentioned that he had worked personally with Teller 1804 and that he will be bringing attention to this matter to his whole team during an upcoming staff meeting. Parker also explained that as the busiest branch, often they cannot answer their general telephone line but that they are working on implementing a fix for this. Thank you, Parker. May I stress, however, that quality interpersonal interactions must always begin with basic and mutual respect. Regardless of Teller 1804's intent, his failure to communicate basic respect to your customers is a detriment to your team and to your branch.

I've been a customer for 14 years! Numerous loans, credit cards, accounts. I couldn't have ended up with a better financial partner. MACU puts the big banks to shame. Never once have I been treated as anything but a unique individual. This is what community banking should look like.
