Given the opportunity to stand on a box and preach to an audience, I would shout accolades about this dental practice. These doctors and their staff are not only kind and patient, but extremely competent. Besides their constant use of the most recent technology to make their patients experiences more pleasant, they also are humanitarians Each year I have brought 20 sixth grade girls from School #35 to Contemporary Dentistry where they preformed free examines, ex-rays and cleanings. They also meet with the girls and talk about all the career opportunities there are in the field of dentistry. This practice ROCKS!!! I Jane Gordon

I was a former patient at Dr Calcagnos practice. I was glad to see that nothing changed with his move to the new practice. Appointments are on time and the work is excellent!

If there is such a thing as a pleasant dentist visit, it would happen here. The staff is genial and friendly, and you can get an appointment fairly quickly. I see Dr. Messer, and she is always a pleasure—professional, pleasant, and very attentive. Luckily for me, my checkup is typically positive with no issues, and I get a teeth cleaning that leaves me with a rejuvenated smile. I would recommend this place to everyone, especially those of you who are wary of dentists, as Contemporary Dentistry really removes the stress that often comes with a visit to the dentist’s office.

There are a few things I find very important when choosing a dental office. Making (or changing) an appointment should be easy. I hate the dentist, so I need a staff that helps me feel calm and comfortable. I want my questions answered accurately, and for it to be evident and obvious that my needs come first. It's also nice if I don't get an exasperated lecture about how I should be flossing after every meal. Do people really do that? Anyway, I did not have a single expectation that Contemporary Dentistry did not meet or exceed. Very impressive.

Dr. Belous and the entire staff are just awesome! After years of putting off having work done, I went there on the recommendation of a coworker. They came up with a plan, explained why things needed to be done and have executed flawlessly! They replaced an old silver filling and did two partial crowns, I just wish I had found them sooner! A first class Doctor with first class staff, a first class practice!

I had years of fear about dental visits. I specifically sought out Contemporary because they specialize in phobia issues. They now have me literally looking forward to my visits. They'll give you headphones, a blanket, nitrous and they'll be so kind that you will forget your having any work done and think you're at a Spa. Plus, they reversed years of bad care and now I have a gorgeous smile and healthy teeth and gums. Dr Bellows is great. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

I've been going to Contemporary Dentistry (Dr. Messer) for about a decade now, and have never had a bad experience. More than that, I've come to actually LOOK FORWARD to going! Why? Let me count the ways: 1) beautiful, soothing waiting room; 2) alert, responsive receptionists; 3) professional, courteous, thoughtful hygienists and dental assistants; 4) empathic, sensitive, meticulous, and hugely competent Dr. Messer.

Boy, was I happy to find this place! Being in the field of dentistry myself for 26 years, I knew what I was looking for. Knowledge, Caring, Expertise, Gentle, Listening. Even Fun! I got that and other niceties too, like the beautiful spa like feel in the whole office. And something that is definitely exciting is their focus and training in holistic healthcare. It makes so much sense to see the body as a whole rather than only a mouth. Contemporary Dentistry is not just their name, it is a description of their cutting edge, state of the art healthcare practice and of an awesome team with a vision. Thank you so much for bringing that vision into a reality! Sorely needed in dentistry. Congratulations for a job well done.

Excellent experience from the moment I walked in! Everyone is very warm and welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. The Dr and assistants were very knowledgable and took the time to explain everything in detail and answer all questions I had and the front office staff did a great job at obtaining estimates for future work that needs to be done. I would most definitely recommend anyone to visit Contemporary Dentistry!

Dr. Belous and her team are great! Not only do they do great work, they were also very helpful in scheduling appointments so my daughter could get all of her dental work finished before she left for college. Also, as someone who has had my fair share of dental work, I find Dr. Belous does great work in an extremely comfortable manner.

Contemporary Dentistry is the most professional medical/dental experience I have ever had. As several other reviewers have stated, I too had a fear of dentists and dental work for most of my life. Contemporary Dentistry changed all that for me a few years ago. Every individual is professional, gentle and kind. The whole office has an integrative mentality with repect to dental and general health care utilizing state of the art equipment and pracitices. I cannot say enough positive things about them!

I had chronic jaw pain for well over a decade and talked to multiple dentists about it with no resolution. I decided to take matters into my own hands a couple of years ago and search Rochester for someone who could help me. I was fortunate enough to land in Dr. Messer's chair. After being fitted with a night-time guard and using exercises to help me restore (mostly) normal function, I have absolutely no pain or discomfort. I recently decided to go to Dr. Messer for all of my dental care and after just one visit I'm very glad that I did. She is thorough in her approach and thoughtful in her answers to my questions. Additionally, every member of the team there has been great to work with. I am very thankful for Contemporary Dentistry and recommend them without reservation.

Whenever I return to Rochester, I always make an appointment at the offices of Contemporary Dentistry because I’m guaranteed to have a positive experience. Dr. Belous and Dr. Messer are generous and actually care about their patients’ well-being. I always feel better after my checkups because I know I’m in good hands. Plus my teeth always feel cleaner than when I go to another dentist’s office. Go figure!

Dr. Messer is the BEST dentist I have ever been to. Great hands, gentle and VERY patient. I have been to many dentists in my lifetime and can say from experience it doesn't get better. I had been having problems with two of my back teeth. I had been to other dentists but the problem persisted. She solved the problem in one visit. As a bonus I have never been to an office as modern and beautifully decorated as this office. Going to the dentist is not high on my to do list, but this was as pleasant an experience that you can have.A Grateful Patient

So I was back visiting college friends in my old stompin grounds, and wouldn't you know it, I had an emergency tooth issue. Ya ever just wake up with that roaring pain? Oh man, the worst right!????!!! My boy Johnny drove me to this place, i walked in with nothing but pain, they fixed me up good and right.Turned out I needed a root canal. Luckily my insurance covered most of it. Great people here and they were very caring (I was crying like a 3 year old girl). I don't live up here, so I won't be going regularly, but it was a great experience from start to finish. I was ready to knock my own tooth out with an ice skate Castaway style, luckily these folks made it a little easier.

I hadn't been to the dentist in a few years, and developed a pretty deep cavity in one of my back molars. I can't imagine it was a convenient location to work on.. If it were my old dentist, I think it might have been a bad experience, but Dr. Belous is very skilled and attentive to her patient's needs. I didn't feel the Novocaine injection at all, and the rest of the time I was too busy watching TV to notice much else (there's a TV right above you, when you're laying down!). Aside from Dr. Belous' head getting in the way a couple times (I forgive her, since she was doing more important things), it was a painless and, dare I say comfortable, experience. My previous visits to the "office" (an evaluation and a cleaning), were just as great, too. I say office loosely, because it doesn't have that sterile, clinical environment you might be accustomed to at the dentist. Just like the inviting atmosphere, all of the staff I've met have been friendly and personable. Going back to the dentist, after a long hiatus, can be a scary thing.. but I think Contemporary Dentistry has shown that "the dentist" doesn't have to be something you fear. And, hey, you may even enjoy it! :D

My husband and I have been coming to see Dr. Messer at Contemporary Dentistry for all our dental needs, for a very long time and have been more then pleased. Our last appointment was for cleanings and every time we have our teeth cleaned, Dr. Messer always examines our teeth afterwards. She is very thorough and we feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful dentist.

The caring staff at Contemporary Dentistry are always friendly and welcoming. I am very happy that I have found this practice in recent years and now my daughters also are seen there. Staff are caring, considerate, kind and professional. My cleaning was very thorough and steps were all explained in the process. After reading a rather detailed and unfavorable review on here (which people are entitled to do; post their experiences), I just wanted to add this regarding costs of procedures and the feeling a few may have had about feeling that work was recommended that wasn't really needed. My first visit to this office was over 3 years ago to see Dr. Messer. It was my CHOICE to stop in for a consultation on having amalgam fillings removed due to the mercury in them. I know my mouth is full of these amalgam fillings and I wanted a consult on the proper removal (and cost) of taking them out and having them replaced. Although Dr. Messer did explain how they safely remove the old fillings, they did NOT push removing my 5+ amalgam fillings. They gave me a consultation with quote and let me decide. Dr. Messer's bigger concern was for something that showed up on x-ray involving my jaw. I had no idea this was even a potential issue and went to see a specialist about it. She and her practice could have certainly "sold" me more on the removal of the amalgam fillings (which is why I went there in the first place), but no such sales pitch took place. I, too, have had the unfortunate experience at some dentists' offices in the past where it feels like a sales pitch the minute you sit down in the chair. However, I did not feel this way here. When I came back to the practice to become a regular patient for routine cleanings and exams, I was treated courteously and with the utmost respect for any concerns or questions I have had. Quite honestly, I'm tired of needing to have my teeth drilled and work done. Dr. Messer and her team have given me alternative options for caring for my teeth and mouth to help prevent further cavities and respect my thoughts/opinions on the types of medicines or alternative medicines I use or could use. I'm sorry for those that had a negative experience here. That has not been the case for my family or me.

Going to the dentist was always something I tried to put off for as long as possible. But when all my dental issues became impossible to avoid, I knew the dentist I would need had to be extraordinary. That extraordinary dentist turned out to be Dr. Messer. Needless to say, due to years of neglect, I needed many procedures, including extensive cosmetic work. During every appointment, Dr. Messer was extremely compassionate, understanding, professional, and I must say, she even had a great sense of humor. I nicknamed her "Dr. Magic-Hands." I now have a smile I can be proud of and I will always be grateful to Dr. Messer for that.

After having been patients at this practice for a few years and thousands of dollars later, my husband and I decided it was time to find a new dentist. If you are a patient or are considering this practice be aware of a few things: 1. Their prices are significantly higher than other reputable dentists located in Brighton and Pittsford. We are talking $50-100 per basic fillings, and hundreds of dollars for root canals, crowns, etc. They do not care to even consider price schedules from insurance companies – they name their own inflated prices and are not in network with any insurance company. 2. There is nothing holistic about the way they treat patients. They use the same sedatives as any other dentist in the area and charge more for the “spa like” environment. If anything, we have now learned from getting second and third opinions they over treat their patients. 3. Their treatment plan seems to constantly change as well as pricing. As a family that is on a budget, we were very specific in that we could not endure “surprise” charges without our consent. Every visit where work was done, there was a change in the amount we would owe at the end (when my husband was too numb to talk to them) than what we were told to anticipate (and we are talking about basic fillings…no special work done or medical emergencies). 4. You will wait and wait and wait. Their appointments never run on time and you could spend half a day there for cleanings, basic fillings, etc. Yet, if you run behind, I have heard from other unsatisfied former patients they will turn you away, charge you for the appointment, and then require deposit for next visit. Their time is valuable, but not the patients. 5. They have a real issue calling and needing to reschedule constantly. When they go to reschedule you, it's not a week difference, it can be sometimes up to two months! So in the meantime, you sit with a decaying tooth or problem on hold waiting to be fixed. 6. They do not do basic extractions or the simplest procedures most dentists do. They instead have another dentist come in on Fridays to do the procedure. Not only do you get charged a “consultation fee” for Dr. Messer to tell you the work is needed, you will then get another “consultation fee” for the dentist on Friday. We are talking $90 consultation fees per dentist NOT covered by insurance companies. 7. Office Manager Harrold is Dr. Messer’s husband. When we had bill issues, they were real quick to credit us the difference we didn’t agree upon or drop the charges when we would put them in between a rock and hard place being we made them put what we would owe in writing before they did the work. How does an office stay in business doing this if those charges were truly owed and they can just deduct them numerous times? Also, they offer a fairly significant discount if you pay by cash or check…again, how inflated are the prices to be able to do so? 8. Lastly, upon switching to a new dental group within walking distance (and also very reputable and well known in Rochester)….we were surprised to find out one of the fillings my husband still supposedly needed done, was definitely not needed. Perfectly healthy tooth on the xray provided by Contemporary Dentistry to this group! Secondly, a tooth they claimed they couldn’t fill all the way and would need $3,000!! in work, guess what? New dentist was able to fill – no need for grinding of the bone, implant, and all the ridiculous recommendations made. Bottom line – compare and look around at other options if looking for a new dentist. If they recommend work – ALWAYS get a second opinion! I am not the only review or past patient I have come across who avoided major amounts of expensive work by simply going elsewhere. We feel so lucky we chose to leave when we did and save my husband unnecessary work with an honest dentist who charges fair prices for work that NEEDS to be done.

Hated going to the dentist.....until I landed at Contemporary Dentistry. An unbelievable difference for someone who is needle phobic, anxious and nervous about all things 'dentist'.... even the cleanings. EVERYONE here is just wonderful....front end staff is so welcoming, hygienists are careful and concerned about your true health, and Dr. Messer is simply a creative genius. I had a boat accident a few years ago....knocked out most of my two front teeth....the same week as my sister's wedding, which I was in. Dr. Messer quickly and temporarily put me back together for the wedding and then put me on the path to a reconstruction that was better than my original. Seriously, I have been going there for many years and could not be happier. And like I said.....I REALLY did not like going to a dentist. I'm not much of a 'reviewer' but this office is worthy of your serious consideration

I had the most secure feeling walking into this dental office, not only is it beautifully decorated, it's a place that instills confidence in your thoughts of having dental work done by highly professional dentists, surgeon, hygienists, and assistants. My experience in this dental office was with Dr. Arlene Messer, she takes the time to speak to you about the dental work she will be performing and then carries it out expertly and pain free. I had the pleasure of speaking to Dr. Alessandro Geminiani (implant surgeon) who also explained the implant procedure step by step, so that a layman such as myself, could understand every word. He then proceeded to do bone grafting due to bone diminishing because of infection. Then after 6 months of healing, he put in 3 implants. The procedure was painless and after the surgery there was minimal swelling & pain. It is 1 week after surgery, I feel great. Thank you for your compassion and heartfelt caring Dr Messer and Dr. Geminiani.

If it's at all possible to say a dental experience was lovely this would be the place you could say that. To say I have dental fear is an understatement. I have dental treatment terror. Oh it's not the doctors personally its what they have to do to me... Dr. Messer and all the staff at Contemporary Dentistry are very understanding about your fears. From the front desk to the dental assistants and Dr. Messer & Dr. Geminiani, even the insurance administrator all very patient and make every effort to ease your fears. I will actually schedule an annual check up with this office and its well worth the hour drive. They take their time and explain everything from cost to step by step of what your treatment options are. I never felt pressured or threatened, they really go the extra mile to ease your fears. Thank you for your calm and patient chairside manner. I gave them 5 stars but can't say I will ever LOVE going to the dentist but this office is the first office I've ever agreed to schedule an annual cleaning and check up after a procedure. Because normally I run out of the office never to return until theres an issue. Still in shock the bad tooth is extracted and I was awake for the procedure and was able to drive home afterward! Normally, I need a driver for a cleaning because the anxiety is so bad I'm incapable of driving myself. Dr. Geminiani was as wonderful as Dr. Messer said he would be. I trust both of these doctors. I highly recommend this office if you suffer from dental fears.

To give a dental appt five stars is unthinkable for me. There is no experience in life that I fear and hate more than a dentist appt. This was my first appt at this office. I am so appreciative that Contemporary Dentistry gave me an immediate appt when I called this morning in pain. Dr. Messer and ALL staff treated me with patience and respect. They listened to my excuses, my explanations, my tears with no judgement. I am so so appreciative of the care I received. Thank you so for so very much.

I'm a 58 yr old male, been in the construction business, and macho as they come. But, I'm a total WIERDO when I'm in a dentist chair! I'm afraid of dentists. I mean, I can't stand to HEAR the sound of a drill! And can't stand that shooting, "electric" sensation from a sensitive spot in my teeth. II used to sit there a wait for "it" to happen. I stayed away from dentists for many years, until I had a crater in my back molar and the pain was too intense. After hearing a radio commercial for "dentistry with a heart", I went to see Dr. Belous. Discussing my phobia, she assured me I would be comfortable all the time. Well, I've since had 2 root canals, crowns, and periodontal scalings. My teeth are coming back to where they should be. And NO PAIN!! NONE, ZIP, ZERO!! They set me up with a plasma TV in front of me, headphones, and the remote. I've had the sedation, and I gotta say, it is totally remarkable. Didn't feel a thing! The whole staff knows me, and is genuinely concerned for my comfort. Because of Dr. Belous, and the staff, I have avoided the very real chance of losing my teeth, and living a life of dentures. She is at the top of her game, as nobody could possibly be better at what they do. If you have any anxiety in a dentist chair, forget it. I now look forward to my routine mantenance visits. THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY TEETH:) and if anybody doesn't believe I'm for real, or this whole thing is baloney, call me. Jim @ 721-7770
