On the edge of Hove, great to be able to walk out here onto the Downs. Lots of wild flowers and paths of different lengths to walk around. Great view of the City from the top.

Despite living in Brighton for over 40 years and being a keen wildlife photographer, I somehow managed never to visit Benfield Nature Reserve.
I corrected that yesterday,on a blustery day when frankly I wasn't expecting much activity.
Boy was I wrong. This is a fantastic site. There were butterflies galore, more than I've seen anywhere else so far this summer: Various Skippers, Whites, Ringlets, Meadow Browns, Marbled Whites, Red Admirals and more.
I photographed Blackcaps, Goldfinch and Spotted Flycatchers and saw various others birds, bees, beetles and bugs.
I shall be back within days. I've still so much more to discover here.

A beautiful part of the county and indeed country. Could do with more funding as litter seems to be encroaching. Some gorgeous wildlife and scenery.

This is a beautiful area that a lot of people help to maintain. You can see lots of birds and orchids and butterflies and if you're very lucky, a snake or lizard. It's very peaceful and quiet, you can sit here and just be. We're lucky to have this lovely place.

Benfield Hill is Brighton & Hove's oldest Local Nature Reserve and forms part of the South Downs National Park. Chalk grassland and scrub supporting large populations of wild flowers, butterflies and glow-worms.
