I have been to North Street garage twice recently and have experienced outstanding customer service on both occasions. Dave is 100% honest and I completely trust his assessment/advice/fees. He and his team work quickly and communicate well with regards to repairs and costings. I will be recommending them far and wide after today. (With reference to the review below, the car is one of their courtesy cars so I wouldn't assume it was one of the staff driving it.)

emailed them about a week ago to let them know one of their employees was booming it through town way above the speed limit in their sign written car (advertising themselves) and almost crashed into another car. Zero respect for other people on the road. No response from them so they don't seem too bothered. I would go out of my way to let people in town know they don't really care about others. If I could zero the review I would - not just the danger to people around town but lack of care from the email I sent.

Both times I have taken the car to get an MOT, I have been happy with the service. However, last week I called North Street Garage and explained that the clutch on my mother’s new car is far too high and sensitive with under 10% of the range accounting for over 90% of the clutch. This makes clutch control very difficult. I explained this over the phone for about 10 minutes, “no problem”, then explain again when I dropped off the car. I got a call back later that day saying that they’d changed the clutch and a bunch of other things. It all came to £620. That was much more than I expected but I said to myself, “fair enough, I should have asked them how much before I left my car with them– my fault”. But, when I arrived to pick up the car, I found that nothing had been done to fix my actual problem. After I drove the car around, I found no difference. When I took it back to explain the situation, I was told that what I was asking for wasn’t possible and they only have ‘clutch’ written down in their book in relation to the problem with my car. The car had an MOT about 2 months ago and was bought from a dealership. It’s really unlikely it was as badly burnt out as they said. Clearly, they were just looking for a way to squeeze money out of me. So, now I’ve paid £620 to NOT have done what I wanted to be done. You can tell me that it isn’t possible, maybe that’s true; but to do all of this work, which I didn’t need, without telling me how much it would be and to not actually do what I asked you to do is outrageous. How well managed can they be to just write down ‘clutch’ in relation to a specific problem? Make sure you get email confirmation of what you want done and how much it will cost BEFORE you start. I got too comfortable with using verbal agreements and I’m paying for it. I wouldn’t be respecting myself if I continued using this garage. Maybe it was a mix-up, but they took an opportunity to do-over someone who they trusted them.

Would highly recommend. Wouldn't use any other garage. By far the most genuine, reliable and fairly price garage I've ever experienced. They always act professionally and friendly. Will always be honest and upfront about the work that needs doing. More often than not the work will be done faster than you expect and always to a high service. Fixed my obscure clutch cable overnight and it's stayed fixed, so I'm happy. If you like reading old copies of car magazines you can sit in the waiting room as long as you like, though the staff might look at you oddly if you're not a customer. North Street as a whole hadn't made it into any list of Lewes's prettiest places but I shall be sad when the area's redevelopment takes away such practical, straightforward places.

I originally emailed the info email address on the website in respect of this and they didn't bother to reply, so here is my review of this garage; A few weeks ago I brought my Peugeot 207 to this garage for a full service and new clutch- price was reasonable so I had no issues with booking the car in. My partner picked up the car from the garage later on that day, and drove it a short distance. Immediately the car began showing signs of mechanical failure, with warning lights telling her to stop driving immediately. She bought the car back to yourselves, and was told that one of your staff 'just hadn't plugged something back in' or 'had left a tool in the engine bay'. I understand that mistakes are made, so I would have been happy to leave it there. However, I had a flat tire this weekend and took it to be repaired. The tire fitter asked me to come outside with him to took over the car, and pointed out two things; - the front tires are almost bald - the two front tires and misaligned and are showing an uneven pattern of wear. Considering I have a list of things that the garage 'checked' during the service, and the tyres are on there, I am left wondering if there was anything else that you didn't check? The tires are both at 1.6mm tread depth, which is on the legal limit. I'm left totally baffled by this and have really been left wondering why I spent the best part of a thousand pounds with this garage!
