Great day out spent at Belfast Zoo, the new measures put in place for the safety of the staff and customers during the pandemic are great, the one way system and markings make visitation a safe and pleasurable one, keep up the good work.

Been a while since we'd visited Belfast zoo and all I can say was it was ok. The first thing was they didn't have the little shuttle bus on and my mother in law has arthritis and finds it painful at times and it was hard going on her, so if you were in a wheelchair you weren't getting up there without a lot of bother. There were a few animals that were supposed to be there but weren't, a lot of the animals looked absolutely miserable. There was a lot of rubbish floating in the bears pool and the penguins(I know they Normally smell a bit) but these were absolutely disgusting. It's a shame they couldn't get some funding to spruce the place up and sort their animals homes out because at the minute it's just not worth the money.

Large enough zoo, lots of animals, only £6.25 for students. Would go on a warmer day though

For one reason or another some of the animals stayed indoors and did not come out. You could not go into their houses to see them because of civil 19 which is understandable.

Took the children recently after allowing to open during the covid shambles. Booked 2.30 slot, didn't open the doors to us til 2.40, path laid out to show directional one way system which I suppose worked. reptile house was open, no distancing, the farm was open, no farm animals except 2 goats though 3 stalls of Guinea pigs or rabbits. Chimp house closed, gorilla house closed, elephant house closed though they were out and behaving concerningly, bird house closed, rainforest house closed. No big cats apart from the lions. why open a zoo with little animals. Disappointing

Great zoo. I bring my son here every other month. He loves it. The last time we were there, we got talking to a zoo keeper, who told us all about the upkeep and care of the animals. He took the time to explain things to my son, which was a great touch. I really couldn't recommend it highly enough and anyone that complains about the hill, the exercise will do you good.

Absolutely love the zoo, but not today. Unfortunately the hedges are too high for any view of the lions. Yes someone was cutting hedges today but for children under a metre tall cannot see. The first hedge was around the lions. All children consider the lions to be 'the zoo'and also the gorillas. The sculptures of the gorilla builds up to the expectations of a great sight when you walk (or push a buggy, or carry small children) the whole way up the hill. When you get there, the gorillas were indoors, great opportunity for small children to see the animals up close. You'd think! No ! The windows were filled in with painting of camouflage. Now I understand that animals need an environment as close to their natural environment as possible but painting out the windows is as far from a natural environment as you could get. Now as for it as an attraction. How wonderful for little children to see the gorillas swinging and eating up their vegetables, but no, how can they see in the windows. Yes if you're 5'5" or over you can look through the thinning out green painted leaves, which apparently, a study by Queens University researchers recommended. I'm quite sure this was not that they ment. I could ofcourse be wrong maybe we aren't supposed to view the animals indoors but why then would we have a gorilla house with a 'viewing' gallery. My small grandson and others I observed including not very tall Chinese teenagers were unable to see anything. So hardly an attraction. The balance of animal protection and comfort v public attraction and education of our small people has not met the needs of both sides. The attraction of the animals and ability to view them surely go hand in hand. The enclosure for elephants, giraffes, and zebras in comparison was wonderful. The hedges were suitably low and the viewing gallery was good. But accessibility to all would definitely assist in the increase of visitors to the zoo. I'm lucky I can go often to the zoo as I live in Belfast. But I met people today who had travelled from Omagh and Derry who had grandchildren under five who were disappointed with the accessibility of the viewing experience. And as older people were unable to lift children up and hold a buggy and coats etc. I think it's time to consider reintroducing the train, and better viewing access for smaller customers. Remember if they like it at that age you have them for life, they will bring their children and grandchildren as I have. I was absolutely disgusted to pay £4.80 for 2 ice lollies that cos under £1 in my local shop. To attract customers especially with children they MUST feel they are not getting ripped off. I normally buy season tickets to the zoo for xmas presents. But I think very little would put these things right. Thankyou

I was here today with my partner and 3 year old. Be advised if it is raining the experience is greatly restricted. Almost all the animals in poor weather will be indoors and the indoor viewing areas are closed due to COVID-19. Some of the animals are quite obviously mentally damaged. Belfast zoo has replied in other reviews as if they are doing some majestic service by housing these animals but really, I didn't pay to go to Belfast zoo to be witness to some mentally scarred elephants and bears. I regretted this aspect of my visit. A lot of the enclosures are in need of maintenance and the ramshackle 'floral hall' and the tatty posters round it are just an embarrassment. Again, such a majestic service keeping this crumbling eyesore standing in the middle of the zoo...the puddles offered the most enjoyment to the 3yr old and to be honest after the 6th empty enclosure of muddy grass I found splashing in them quite preferable myself.

Unlike my Grandson I had not been to Belfast Zoo before. We were given a map of the zoo when we checked I , having booked online. Taking a few minutes to plan what you MUST see and finding the best route was certainly very beneficial. Each of our party of 5 had their own favourites, and this helped us to see all of those, plus much, much more. We arrived early, so many animals were still being fed, and the visitor numbers were still low. The pathways are well maintained and reasonably wide, but there is one drawback. The site is very steep. Most of the time you are either heading up or down a hill. I have arthritis in my hips and back and I had to avail of my walking stick to complete our tour. Pushing a wheelchair or heavy pushchair here, could take a toll! Having said that, I wouldn't have missed my visit for anything. We had fun, got lots of interesting information and thoroughly enjoyed our picnic. I would add too that the views over Belfast city are quite amazing and a definite bonus. I would absolutely recommend a visit for adults, as well as for families with children. Maybe wait until the kids are 5 or 6 years old, it's not a place you would want to be carrying little ones too far!

Peacock is proud of Belfast Zoo. The peacock walked round the tree top restaurant, like he owned the place. Full to capacity, on a sunny bank holiday, it was a great day for everyone

Interesting Zoo where they are obviously doing many renovations at the moment. There should be more information about the steepness of the paths and some form of transport provided on a daily basis for those less able than others to walk. The restaurants and coffee houses are in need of up grading and a more varied menu provided and more staff.
