Everyone from receptionists, nurses to the vets are absolutely lovely. It's not easy to get in & out of their car parking space but worth the effort. ????????

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all. Even with these strange times you made me feel so at ease leaving Ozzy with you guys. From every member of staff I encountered whether in person or on the phones you are all so friendly and kind! Its a difficult time for everyone but you are doing a fantastic job thanks so much for taking such good care of Ozzy!

There are no doubt that there are some great members of staff at Southdown Vets and I will say that they are always friendly and professional. However they have let us down terribly and our dog has been suffering with a condition that could potentially have been sorted by now. On the 12th of November I brought our 13 month Staffy to the clinic and explained that since September/October she had been having intermittent lameness on her back left leg. It seemed to be more prominent after resting or after running. Some days where she wouldn’t weight bear on it for the rest of the day after exercise. I explained that with rest it goes away but returns. On the day of her examination, after detailing this pattern to the vet, I was told she couldn’t see a problem and to just monitor it. Which I had done already. A few weeks later noticing that the problem wasn’t going away and frustrated that we still hadn’t got any answers, I reached out again for a second opinion on this. She was booked on for an X Ray and I was told they couldn’t see anything on the x-ray. I was given no further advice on what to do about the condition even though it continued. I rested my dog and kept her on the lead for a number of weeks after that to absolutely rule out any soft tissue damage. The first time she was let off the lead for just a few minutes the lameness returned. After then paying for yet another appointment for a telephone consultation for this same condition, I spoke to a vet who, when I described the pattern, was straight away able to identify what this could have been and she was brought in again to be examined. This time I was told that the X Ray had in fact not actually even been looked at and no one had chased this up. The next day, after having a specialist look at our dog’s x ray it turns out that our dog will require a major surgery on her back leg. It’s great to finally have an answer and to know that she will now get the care that she needs but I am disgusted that it took me getting in touch again for them to look at the x ray. I wonder how long my dog would have been left needing this surgery and potentially making her condition even worse had I not taken it upon myself to rest her and follow up. Now we’re looking at resting a 15 month old Staffy for yet another 3 weeks before she will even have the operation and then a long recovery after. If they had done their job and followed up on the results our dog could maybe have the surgery over her by now. And she could be well on the road to recovery had this been looked at more deeply at the initial consultation back in November. We have had a similar instance with the same vet in summer when our dog was developing hives when she went on walks. The vet had no idea what it was and took pictures to send to their dermatologist. After a week or two I received a phone call saying that the pictures taken were of such low quality that dermatologist actually couldn’t make them out. No advice given or follow up for that. There was also an incident when we were picking up our dog from her neutering operation. When collecting Brody’s medication or lying for treatments we had always paid over the phone when we got home so we didn’t think it necessary to bring a card. The receptionists actually wouldn’t release our dog and made us go back home and come back with a payment card despite us having been with the practice since we got our dog as a puppy. We will of course now be going elsewhere. It is shame to be leaving the surgery on such a sour note and we barely got an explanation as to what happened with our dog’s x ray results. When we told the surgery that we were leaving they didn’t even feel the need to ask why so they are obviously aware of our reasons. Nothing would convince us to stay at this point. It’s a simple case of us no longer believing that they provide the best care possible for our dog. But accepting some responsibility for this situation and a simple apology would have made it a lighter note to leave on.

Really easy experience, very comfortably socially distanced, Harriet was absolutely lovely and very well informed for me as a new cat owner! Happy with our choice to sign up with them. :) xx

I love Southdown Vets. Always friendly and helpful and I never feel they are overpriced. The only downside is that they don't have an "exotics" vet to treat my chickens, so I have to travel for nearly half and hour. Hopefully one day they will be able to get one :)

Very nice place - the woman on reception is a breath of fresh air. Very kind people here who loved meeting my dog. Prices were as fair as they could be for a vet and the environment was much less stressful for my anxious dog than other vets! Thanks.

I wanted to write this review to say a huge thank you to all the lovely staff at Southdowns for all of their help and support in the really difficult time when our Border Terrier Trevor was so unwell. We had to take him to the emergency practice in Brighton after hours as he was so sick and they gave him treatment and kept us constantly informed of his condition, he was then moved back to the hove branch were he had an operation to remove a stone from his stomach and again received amazing care from start to finish! Thank you all so much for saving our little dog we will be forever great full for everything you did xx

Nice Vet but poor service from the suppprt staff/ nurse. Unable to answer basic questions, bullying in approach to pet owners and ilinformed about routine schedules for pets of different ages. I registered a complaint and held back from this review but two working days later I have heard nothing.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Surgery has initiatives like "Healthy Pet Club" which helps reduce the cost of vet bills.
